Photography tips and demonstrations from Nikon professionals

Nikon is a Japanese company and famous for cameras, binoculars, microscopes, measurement instruments etc. Now there is a Nikon Digital Learning Center which provides practical photography tips, demonstrations from Nikon professionals and industry experts, as well as other useful information as it relates to capturing the shot you really want.

Several of Nikon’s sponsored professional photography experts, including Rosanne Pennella and Cliff Mautner, as well as Nikon School instructors Reed Hoffman and Bill Durrence, will be dropping by this group (when not globetrotting on assignment) to post images, and provide tips and commentary ranging in topic from aperture, shutter speed, and composition — to specific genres like photojournalism, landscapes, and portraits.

Wow! this is a good news for all, if you like to learn photography from experts. Although I don’t have Nikon camera, I can still use the tips for my HP digital camera.

Huge Hole Found in the Universe

The Universe is defined as the summation of all particles and energy that exist and the space-time in which all events occur. Very little is known about the size of the universe. It may be trillions of light years across, or even infinite in size.

Now we found the hole is nearly a billion light-years across. It is not a black hole, which is a small sphere of densely packed matter. Rather, this one is mostly devoid of stars, gas and other normal matter, and it’s also strangely empty of the mysterious “dark matter” that permeates the cosmos. Other space voids have been found before, but nothing on this scale.

Near death Out-of-body experience recreated in lab

Experts have found a way to trigger an out-of-body experience in volunteers. The experiments, described in the Science journal, offer a scientific explanation for a phenomenon experienced by one in 10 people. The researchers say their findings could have practical applications, such as helping take video games to the next level of virtuality so the players feel as if they are actually inside the game.

Gmail and Yahoo webmail hacked

Robert Graham, the CEO of errata security, surprised attendees by hijacking a Gmail session on camera and reading the victim’s email. He went even further by demonstrating the attack to us in person, taking over another journalist’s Gmail account and then sending us sheep-loving emails.

Now you know why it’s dangerous to check your web emails in public hotspot or through open wi-fi connections. You can try https session and only use secure wifi connection to avoid problems.

From the article:

The attack is actually quite simple. First Graham needs to be able to sniff data packets and in our case the open Wi-Fi network at the convention fulfilled that requirement. He then ran Ferret to copy all the cookies flying through the air. Finally, Graham cloned those cookies into his browser – in easy point-and-click fashion – with a home-grown tool called Hamster.

The attack can hijack sessions in almost any cookie-based web application and Graham has tested it successfully against popular webmail programs like Google’s Gmail, Microsoft’s Hotmail and Yahoo Mail. He stressed that since the program just uses cookies, he only needs an IP address and usernames and passwords aren’t required.

40 Gbps world’s fastest broadband in central Sweden

The world’s fastest internet connection is in Sweden at 40 Gigabits per second connection – thousands of times faster than the average ADSL / DSL / Cable home Internet connection.

According to this article:

A 75 year old woman from Karlstad in central Sweden has been thrust into the IT history books – with the world’s fastest internet connection.

Sigbritt Löthberg’s home has been supplied with a blistering 40 Gigabits per second connection, many thousands of times faster than the average residential link and the first time ever that a home user has experienced such a high speed.

But Sigbritt, who had never had a computer until now, is no ordinary 75 year old. She is the mother of Swedish internet legend Peter Löthberg who, along with Karlstad Stadsnät, the local council’s network arm, has arranged the connection.

Free POP3 server for personal use

My friend recently asked me a question:

Where can you find a free POP3 server?

POP3 has made earlier versions of the protocol obsolete. Generally you will not find a free POP3 server. Usually your ISP or webhosting company provides IMAP or POP3 access.

But where can get a free POP server?

You can use Google’s GMAIL service which provides a free POP3 service. You can download email using POP3 and send email using Googles SMTP server. According to Google:

POP, or Post Office Protocol, lets you download messages from Gmail’s servers onto your computer so you can access your mail with a program like Microsoft Outlook Express or Netscape Mail, even when you aren’t connected to the Internet.

POP access is free for all Gmail users and we have no plans to charge for it in the future.
