Broadband or Bandwidth problem – my DSL blues

You know it is pain to use 256kbps DSL with limited data-transfer option.
In India we don’t have bandwidth problem, so what’s holding back the Broadband in India? Elsewhere in the world fast broadband connection available at very reasonable prices.
First and most important lack of access to last mile connectivity. Private players don’t have last mile telephone network . Only government owned BSNL (or MTNL) has last mile network.
Cost of DSL/ADSL router/modem are also bit hight as compare to other countries.
Bandwidth itself is expensive for ISP. ISP purchase bandwidth from VSNL/BSNL in bulk and sales to end users. An E1 line from BSNL cost around 13 lacks/pa (INR. 13,00,000), DS-3 INR 10400000/pa etc. This is quite expensive as compare to other countries. Price was dropped by TRAI but VSNL claiming that the pricing hurts its business. So order sent back by to TRAI to consider VSNL’s concerns.
Today we use only 30% of bandwidth of the total capacity. Rest is not used and not given to end users like us.
I think both BSNL/MTNL should allow private ISP to use their vast last mile network, reduce prices. Private ISP should also move to latest technology such as WiMAX to provide last mile connectivity (still they can have fiber optic based backbone). And get fast broadband (minimum 1 Mbps) for all of us. Big market waiting for all ISPs. Hope private ISP and BSNL/MTNL/TRAI listing to me.

Till then it is Hakuna Matata!

Why God does not listen to our prayers?

Learn about God and prayers – and more about why my wish was not granted.

God is like our Friend. We all are his children. He is the all-loving one. He always listens to our prayers.

However, some time we feel God is not listing our prayers. We go further and think he does not answer prayer and we feel he cannot do anything for us. The truth is everything is possible with God. In addition, God does not answer our prayer because of he knows that they are not for our good. In today’s fast moving world following formula should help all of us:

Worship God in all your happy times,
Pray hard to God in all your difficult times,
Spend time in temple/church in your quite times,
Admire God in all your painful times,
Indeed, remember supreme power every time to draw closer to him.

Keep faith on God

According to Sadhu Vaswani, “Faith is not blind. Faith is seeing with the eyes of mind. With two eyes, we see beautiful world, and with eyes of faith we can distinguish goodness, peace, and joy around us.”

Faith is believing that god loves you. God loves every one of use. He has a plan for us. He will provide for all our need.

Throughout our lifetime, we came across good and bad experiences. We feel frightened. In such stormy situation, trust the God. He will help us in our darkest time; his light will continue to shine us.

The dream computer

I’m talking about Blue Gene (IBM) supercomputer. It is equal to that of 107904 laptops. A computation that takes an hour on BlueGene would take six years on my 1.7 Ghz lappy. It has 32 terabytes of memory :O and weights over 50 tonnes. So if you order one it will be only shipped in a Boeing 747. This kind monster can only used in research purpose (energy, nuclear, science etc). More on IBM Blue Gene super computer and Blue gene info at wikipedia.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Charurthi is the birthday of Lord Ganesha, son of Shiva & Parvati and God of wisdom and prosperity. The festival falls on the fourth day of the bright fornight of Bhadrapada. It is amongst the most popular festivals in India and especially in Maharashtra.
According to Ganesha Pancharatam Ganesh as

Ganapati who brings happiness to all worlds, who destroyed the demon Gajasura, who has a big belly, beautiful elephant face, who is immortal, merciful, all-forgiving who bestows on me a well-disposed mind

The festival beginning with the installation of beautifully sculpted Ganesh idols in homes and mandaps, colorfully decorated, depicting religious themes or current events. The idols are worshiped with families and friends. He’s the god of wisdom, learning. removal of obstacles and giver of success. He brings in good luck.

As a child, we all used to celebrate together, but now everyone’s busy. So most of us do a simple puja in the morning, offer Ganesha’s favourite sweet – the modaka. Most indian women make modaka at home but others can purchase it at sweet store. Besides modaka we offer God his favourite fruit and flower.
God Ganesha associated with the start of anything new like your business, work, school, even beginning of each puja must start with Ganesha. That is why we call him Adi Devta or the first god.

I would like to wish everyone (especially our site readers) a happy Ganesh Chaturthi and may God fulfill all of our wishes and keep the peace on the our blue planet.

When goof-up to beat all goof-ups

The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences did it. It was a goof-up to beat all goof-ups during exam held in August by University. It was a tough start for first year medical students they were given a question paper based on old syllabus, while repeaters were given question paper based on new syllabus. :O
Everyone is blaming technology i.e downloading mix-up is the main reason (call it E-confusion hee). According to University it was the problem of colleges who are responsible for this mess. The papers were sent online, and university official claims paper codes and timetable were given to all colleges, whose administrations messed up and distributed the wrong papers. They (college) simply downloaded wrong questions papers sent by university.
I can only say it is students it is bad luck for all students. Everyone is crying on technology. But sorry to say this is not technology who is responsible for mess-up. Technology is tool and one need to use it carefully especially if it is playing with future of students. Those who got wrong questions papers they can’t clear the exam and hope university arranges re-exam, although university officials have ruled out this possibility.

Don’t forget your teacher

Remember your first lesson in life or lesson that changed your life. It is your teacher. In India 5th September is celebrated as Teachers’ day.
On the eve of teacher’s day I would like to just wanna say one think “Don’t ever forget your teacher”. They mold your life. Lesson learned from teacher remain with you throughout life.

No matter what happens you should always respect your teachers.

5th September is the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the president of India in 1962, some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate 5th September, his “birthday”. In reply, Dr, Radhakrishnan said, “instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers’ day”. The request showed Dr.Radhakrishnan’s love for the teaching profession. From then onwards, the day has been observed as Teachers’ Day in India.
