Windows Vista Turn on Windows Aero Eye Candy 3D Effects

This is a band new feature available in Windows Vista. This feature is hardware dependent. It is named as Windows Aero – an acronym for Authentic, Energetic, Reflective, and Open. The new interface is intended to be cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing than those of previous Windows, including new transparencies, live thumbnails, live icons, animations, and eye candy.

If you have high end 3D graphics card and Windows Vista Home Premium, Business or ultimate edition you can turn on these effects.

Turn on Windows Aero Eye Candy Effects

By default it was turned off on my desktop. After adding latest Nvidia GeForce FX driver, I had to turned it on by visiting:
Desktop > Right click > Select Personalize > Select Theme > Select Windows Vista Theme > Apply > Ok
Windows Vista Turn on Windows Aero Eye Candy 3D Effects

Test Windows Aero Effects

  • Hit Win+Tab keys to get Windows Flip 3D effect
  • Hit Alt+Tab keys to see Windows Flip effect
  • Hit Win+T keys to see Live Thumbnails
  • You will also notice improved notifications, fonts and icon etc

If you have Radeon from ATI or the GeForce FX series from NVIDIA, you will get the best result out of Aero interface.

  1. I can’t stand microsoft products anymore.. In my opinion Microsoft Office is the only thing that they did well..
I got impressed by the new mac os x Leopard… You should do what this mac ad says: GIVE UP ON VISTA!!!

    Apple FTW!!!

  3. You do have a choice! Use Ubuntu! Compiz rocks and so does Open Office. Compiz+AWN=prettier than Vista or OSX

  4. Just found out why areo disappeared on my PC. For some reason probably a game it turned my system to 16 bit color. Areo will only run at 32 bit. If you are having problems give that a try.

  5. Am I the only one who thinks the eye candy is boring? There are NO features here: no flame effect, wobbly windows, nothing. I saw a youtube vid of some guy with animated backgrounds, but it’s nothing i couldn’t do with XP. Seriously, am I missing something? Translucent title bar? a (separate program) widget panel? 3d window selector? This is just nothing. I can’t believe people are even reviewing this, it’s barely a thing.

  6. I have used microsoft products my whole time, and i have to say it is shocking; on the TV it shows how good XP and Vista can be, how fast… only cos they got like 500g memory on them advert showcases!

But the other week, i went to PC World and stumbled upon an Apple iMac; Now i have to say i have seen apple mac products such as OS X Leopard on Youtube and they look fantastic. I always wanted one. So i played around on the one in PC World for a while and it was amazing; The graphics, window Effects, layout; All of it’s perfect.

The next PC i am getting is an Apple Mac OS X Leopard…

P.S. i also tried to find a few things to change my Vista into a Mac; One of them was a “Full” transformation, except all it did was change the boot screen, sounds, icons, added RocketDock, and it looks now like a fancy XP… sick (not). anyways i got rid of that but still had the theme settings and all. So i go into theme settings and click on Leopard. The preview was crap, and everytime i clicked on it i was confronted with an error. But the strange thing was, when i went into Windows Color and Appearence, i could change the total style to a Mac. (what it was, some of the styles were replaced by the mac styles, so i could change to a Vista style (with all the vista window effects) and have Mac buttons/taskbar, BUT with the vista style, it was Aero, so the windows were still see-through. With the Windows Vista Basic style, it was like XP, the windows looked like Mac, the buttons, the taskbar, everything except the window effects!)

Well, enough talk from me, lol full story
